In the Sri Lanka context, OpenStreetMap application is very useful because it is open source and free to use anyone. In Sri Lanka there were two projects in collaboration with the World Bank through the Disaster Management Centre which was aimed to trace building footprints collecting building characteristics in order to use for Disaster Management purpose. 

Apart from these two projects OpenStreetMap community of Sri Lanka is contributing to develop the Map in Sri Lanka that they are updating roads, points of interest, and rivers.
